ABOUT HEIDI

Hello! Mabuhay! My name is Heidi Kim Linh Rodis and I'm a children's book illustrator and designer. I originally come from the Philippines but am currently living in Florida, USA.

My love for children's books started out in our childhood home library. Both of my parents were librarians so we grew up interested in books and learning. Books got me interested in a lot of things, especially art, science, and history.

In 2011, I started my freelancing career taking in small design jobs. Eventually, I was able to get enough jobs to consider dropping university (I was taking Agriculture.) I attended a science and math high school and took Agriculture in university afterwards, so I never thought I would end up getting a job as an artist. But lo and behold, here I am. :)

In between 2011 and 2017, I worked on illustrating for several self-publishing authors. Some of them are published on Amazon, and some on the authors' websites. I had to put my freelancing on hold for four years because I had to move to the US and study Liberal Arts in Oklahoma.

While I was in Oklahoma, I was hired to work for a youth-targeted Christian living magazine called True Education. It was there that I took on a lot of illustration projects. I also learned how to put illustration and layout design together to bring out compelling, eye-catching materials. It was also there that I learned the importance of educating the youth and giving them a vision or a goal to strive for.

Growing up, I've always wanted to do a lot of things: be an astronaut, a farmer, a scientist, a vet, a school principal, an adventurer, a detective, a lawyer, an animator, and so much more. As I became older I realized I couldn't really be all of those. Instead, I chose the path of a book illustrator so I can encourage young readers to be ambitious go-getters, be goal-oriented dreamers, be curious, and develop a love for learning.

I'm currently on the lookout for an agent/agency to represent me.

My big dream is to be publisher someday and help spread book literacy and the love of learning to especially to lower-income families, first to my home country (the Philippines), and then to Asia, and then the world! The baby step version? To work on project with a big publishing company!
